Marley Park Elementary Students Participate in Arbor Day Celebration in Surprise, AZ
SURPRISE, AZ (April 28, 2005) - A year ago, Marley Park began its Arbor Day tradition with a tree dedication ceremony heralding the beginning of the new community emerging in Surprise, Arizona. Today, students from Marley Park Elementary School took part in what is to become an annual community celebration by hosting their own Arbor Day event at the school.
The event included welcoming remarks from principal Lance Chebultz, who thanked the Marley Park Community Association for the donation of a bench and two trees dedicated during the ceremony. Following Chebultz' remarks, first and second grade students read a brief history of Arbor Day; recited poems; and presented thank-you notes, poems and drawings to the Marley Park Community Association. The event closed with the dedication of two shade trees, which the students helped plant, and a bench, decorated with mosaic tiles designed by students in the eighth grade art classes.
"The trees and the bench are our way of saying thank you to Marley Park Elementary for being a part of our community," Paula Randolph, Director of Community Operations for Marley Park, told the assembled students.
The K-8 Marley Park Elementary School, part of the Dysart Unified School District, is located adjacent to the Heritage Club within the 45-acre public-use education and recreation complex in the northwest Phoenix home community of Marley Park. Taking its cues from the area's rich agrarian history, the Arizona new home community of Marley Park emphasizes open spaces, shade trees and diverse and traditional architecture.
