Marley Park to be Home to New Surprise, Arizona Community Park
Heritage Park, a new community park recently approved by the City of Surprise, is currently scheduled to open in the emerging Surprise, AZ home community of Marley Park in March 2006. The proposed 25-acre park, to be located adjacent to Marley Park Elementary school and the community's future Heritage Club, will be a public-use facility with many planned programming elements including adventure play areas, picnic areas, an interactive water-play feature, lighted baseball and soccer fields, a community rose garden and an amphitheater.
The Marley Park Community is being developed in phases by affiliates of Marley Park LLC, which is an affiliate of Scottsdale-based DMB Associates, Inc. ("DMB"). The land for the park was donated by the Kemper and Ethel Marley Foundation to the City of Surprise. Upon completion of the park, the City of Surprise Community and Recreation Services Department will assume responsibility for operations and event programming.
"The entire community of Surprise will benefit from Heritage Park," said City of Surprise
Director of Community and Recreation Services Mark Coronado. "This park allows us to expand our community programming, with increased opportunities for sports, musical and cultural programs."
The northern section of Heritage Park, a hub of activity and play, will include two baseball fields, an adventure playground for young children, and a plaza for community events. The southern section, centered on the arts, will include a 1,600-seat open-air amphitheater with a gazebo stage, a rose garden honoring the roots of Marley Park, and an open field for playful activity.
"Open spaces that invite community involvement are central to the design of Marley Park, and we are pleased to share this space with the greater Surprise community," said Irene Carroll, DMB vice president and general manager for Marley Park. "We envision Heritage Park to be a vibrant center for community recreation where people of all ages and interests can interact with friends and family, participate in community events, and have a good time."
The Surprise, Arizona home development of Marley Park is designed to be a classically styled community celebrating the most valued characteristics of historic neighborhoods. Taking its cues from the area's rich agrarian history, the community of Marley Park emphasizes open spaces, shade trees and diverse and traditional architecture.
